Quick Answer

What Is Electrical Estimating?

Electrical estimating calculates the cost of a building’s power, lighting and low-voltage systems. The estimator prices switchgear, transformers and panels from the one-line diagram and schedules. Feeders are measured by conduit and wire size, and devices, fixtures and controls are counted. Branch circuits are estimated from the panel schedules and plans, and labor units are applied to each item.

Electrical is often 10–20% of a commercial building’s cost and is frequently bid alongside other MEP trades.

Electrical Estimates Counted Device by Device

Electrical bids involve thousands of small items. Missing a few devices per floor or underestimating feeder lengths quickly adds up. Our electrical estimators count every device and fixture from the plans. We measure feeders from the one-line diagram and actual routing, and estimate branch circuits from the panel schedules and circuit layouts.

Labor units are applied by item, size and installation condition, adjusted for ceiling heights, building type and conduit method (EMT, PVC, MC cable).

We include generators and transfer switches, EV charging, lighting controls and low-voltage rough-in, plus fire alarm where it is in the electrical scope. Temporary power, permits and testing are also covered.

Electrical contractors use our estimates to bid more projects. GCs use them to benchmark electrical bids. See also HVAC and fire protection for coordinated MEP pricing.

Florida Expertise

Florida Factors That Change Electrical estimating Costs

Florida’s codes, climate and market conditions add costs that generic national estimating data routinely misses.

Standby Generators

Hurricane risk drives demand for generators and transfer switches in homes, condos and critical facilities.

Flood-Zone Electrical

Equipment in flood zones may need to be elevated above design flood levels, which affects placement and feeder lengths.

Surge & Lightning

Florida’s lightning activity often leads to surge protection and grounding upgrades.
